Hey, Team Ohio!
While it has certainly been a long summer for us all, this is especially true for the petrochemical and plastics lobbying industry. They’ve been hard at work trying to rebrand the process that the U.S. EPA calls ‘incineration,’ and wash over how truly harmful the burning of hazardous materials is. And unfortunately, this has an outsized effect on you all, as Ohio is home to two of the ten operating plastic incinerators in the U.S. (Click here to learn more/check if your community is affected by this).
The Alterra Energy plastic incinerator is a particularly awful example. This facility is not only violating environmental regulations, it’s also generating tons of pollution right next to a preschool AND a historically redlined neighborhood. Help out by joining People over Polymers (POP) in a letter writing campaign to encourage the EPA to regulate the Alterra Energy plastic incinerator. This is so important!! Thank you all in advance for your work!
Next up, a few election related actions:
Donate through Oath to the Ohio State Supreme Court races! Judges Michael Donnelly, Lisa Forbes, and Melody Stewart need your support. Not only are these races critical for voter rights, fair districting, and the right to abortion, but they are also the key to flipping the OH State Supreme Court!! Click here to donate.
You can also go to DemCast’s State Supreme Court Social Media Toolkit to help publicize the above races. This is such an easy and helpful way to get the word out about races that are often overlooked!
Lastly, I would be remiss if I didn’t include anything at all related to the general election. So, go check out Activate America’s postcarding campaigns! There are currently two in Ohio: Get Out the Vote and Vote by Mail, both of which are tremendously important and in need of more postcard writers! Sign up here.
